Day 8 of 20 Days WEST; Hiking in Sedona

A Warm Morning

Arizona was warm and dry each day of our summer travels. Day 8 would prove to be one of the warmest days yet (at least it felt that way)!

Day 8 of Traveling West: Sedona

We planned to hike a trail in Sedona. Fortunately, the librarians gave us some tips on where to go.

Knowing it would be hot, we searched for a local pool to cool off after our hiking excursion. The plan was set: Trail, Hot meal, and Pool time!

The Trail

Early the next day, we set out for the Baldwin Trail. This trail is a family friendly, 2.7 mile hiking path located in Red Rock State Park, just south-west of Sedona.

After a lovely scenic drive traveling North on Route 179, we entered the Red Rock State Park and stopped at the welcome center. Though the building was closed, the kiosk was available for park permits and travel guide books, which were available outside the doors.

In addition to the scenic picture opportunities, the Hummingbirds gave us a sweet show as they danced from tree to feeder. Though it was quiet that morning, they were busy in full action.

Upon arriving at the loop, we applied sunscreen, gathered our hats and water-bottles, and started on our hike.

The red sand or dirt was a distinctive part of the Arizona soil. It was fun to see up close, and we prepared to have dusty, orange shoes for the day!

The first-half of the trail was more shaded. We traveled under trees and brush, around rocks, and across lower parts of the trail. The peaks above us looked towering and distant as we made our way.

We passed more people on the first part of the loop. In fact, a brave group of biking men carried through the narrow passages.

Towards the middle, we began to climb up into the sunshine! The red rocks were so beautiful, and the trail was continually quiet and serene.

As you might expect, the picture opportunities were fantastic with the contrast of colors and the greenery.

After the mid-point of our hike, my cell phone over-heated, and I couldn’t take any more pictures. However, Tim could still use his camera. Many of Tim’s pictures included close-ups of the various plants and wildlife along the trail.

A Hot Meal

After our hike, we stopped for lunch at Nick’s West Side to enjoy a filling meal.

Pool Time!

Because we wanted a bit more Sedona sun, we ventured off to the community pool. This cool dip in the water was complete with a water slide, fun floaties, and amazing scenery.

A Sweet Treat Finale

To cap off our day in Sedona, we stopped for Ice Cream on our way out of town. This moment reminded me of another ice cream treat we experienced three years ago in Miami, FL.

We traveled to Miami for four days in April 2022, and we spent our last day in Little Havana; touring the Bay of Pigs Museum, shopping for souvenirs, and walking up and down the street. The kids have grown up so much since that time.

Conclusion

Altogether, day 8 proved fulfilling and enjoyable. I can’t wait to go back again one day.
