Mom’s Night – An Evening of Inspiration

Tonight I attended a Mom’s Night hosted by my local homeschool association. The guest speaker was Rachael Carman, who is a seasoned homeschooler, author, and speaker. Her podcast, Real Refreshment is full of encouragement and inspiration. She has also released a Bible curriculum in the past year through Apologia called, The Word in Motion: Old Testament and The Word in Motion: New Testament. I feel honored to have been with her and to have spoken with her this evening.

She challenged us to dig deep into the Word of God and to know Him more. Our pursuit of God will flow over to our children, and opportunities will arise where we can share the things that we are learning about Him with them. “God brings those intersections,” she said. She has experienced this in her own life, raising 7 children with her husband.

She firmly believes that “Kids who know this God, change the world!” I feel I’m just beginning to realize the depth of this truth and how it relates to my homeschool. I see it in little glimmers here and there, but it’s hard to measure or see with my eye. Most times I have to trust with my heart in things that I cannot see, cling to His promises when I cannot be sure of the outcome, and place my hope in Him when I’m not even sure about what I’m doing.

After tonight’s meeting, I feel so humbled and so convicted. I feel so moved to live the life God has called me to live. A life with my husband and children, homeschooling, nurturing, discipling, loving, and trusting God with my every moment.

I am so thankful for an inspirational meeting like tonight. I have not seen a speaker quite like Rachael Carman. She was passionate and so genuine. She made herself approachable, and yet she is so wise and seasoned in her experiences. She has also had moments in her life where she was afraid or proud, and even selfish. I can relate to this very well.

I enjoyed learning her story. She shared that God invites us to be a part of His story. He invites me, and He invites you too. We can be a part of the incredible story God is writing; which began at creation and continues until He comes again! I want to be a part of it. I choose to know Him. I choose to trust Him and obey Him. What will you choose?

If you are a fellow homeschooler, know that you are not alone in what you do. You are part of a community. Rachael encouraged us that we are part of the homeschool community. She said, if you’re in Illinois, you’re part of the IL community of homeschoolers. If you’re in North Carolina, then you are the NC community of homeschoolers. We are a living community that is changing the narrative in our families. It’s a beautiful and God-honoring task we have to educate and nurture our children in ways that draws them closer to their Creator, to the Living God! May we do this confidently and boldly, trusting Him with the outcome.

As Rachael encouraged us, we cannot mess Him up! I feel so many times that I’m gonna mess up my kids, but the truth is, I cannot. The Lord has them. The Lord loves them more than I do! He will write their story. May I choose to be a part of that story by knowing Him more, and by trusting and obeying Him.

I hope you can find encouragement and community here or on Rachael’s website and podcast, www.rachaelcarman.com. Again, know that you are never alone! God is with you. He’s also given you a few friends along the way. If you don’t know them yet, know that He will provide. I know He has for me! He will for you too.

Keep Walking Friend,

Christina

She shared some excellent resources with us tonight! I’d love to share them with you too.

I won one of the drawings tonight, and I was given Rachael’s book, How Many Times Do I Have to Tell You. It’s a collection of 62 things we say to our children all the time, and how these sayings are actually what God is trying to tell us. I’m eager to read it. The Spirit must have known it would be a great book for me!
