Date Night: Experiencing Van Gogh
A couple weeks ago, Tim surprised me with a special date night experience. We stepped into a museum exhibit, unsure of what to expect. We came away awed by the beauty, inspired by the story, and refreshed by both the artist’s craftmanship and the modern technical feat that was accomplished.
We attended “Beyond Van Gogh; The Immersive Experience” in the Quad Cities.
Van Gogh’s Words
They began the exhibit with quotes from Vincent Van Gogh’s letters to his brother, Theo. The walls contained other quotes about Van Gogh and about his artistry.
Van Gogh’s Art
The second room of the exhibit was the most experiential and awesome display of Van Gogh’s art. Through media projections, the art was broadcasted on the walls; moving and changing, progressing through the categories of his art-work:
- Potraits
- Flowers
- Basic scenery of daily life
- Countryside
- City landscapes
- Water
- Sky
- The Starry Night
The paintings moved and changed, as if they were dancing to the music. The experience was incredible.
At one point, Tim gently took my hand and began to dance with me to “Vincent (Starry, Starry Night).”
We danced.
We walked around, viewing the art from so many angles.
We sat on the floor.
We took selfies of ourselves and our shadows.
We watched others enjoy the scenery.
We experienced such beauty and tapestry.
Date Night Summarized
This special exhibit was inspiring and magical. We could focus our minds on something truly beautiful and full of wonder and humanity. These moments make us think of the bigger picture.
I felt grateful for my date and hopeful for our future.
I felt grateful for my kids. I dreamed of joy and success for their futures.
A date night like this one left us romanced and enchanted. We need a little bit of wonder in our lives.
