Dancing in Marriage
Two years ago, Tim and I tried something new together; we took dancing lessons. On our way to A Weekend To Remember in Madison, WI, we stopped at the Fred Astaire Dance Studio for a free introductory lesson. We LOVED the experience! We learned the steps to the Rhumba, the Foxtrot, and the beginning of Swing. After the taste, we knew this was something we wanted to do together.
We found another Fred Astaire Dance Studio closer to home, and we began a dancing package. The experience was awesome! A year of dancing date nights and learning something new gave us another connection point in our relationship. It enhanced our marriage.
Dancing Together Made a Difference
Learning something new takes a certain vulnerability or submission. You don’t know everything about this new venture, and you may feel a bit foolish or silly. We experienced all of these feelings together as we learned to dance.
Remember the dating days? When you first begin dating, connection points grows your relationship; a common interest, a common goal, or even a common foe! Those points of connection begin to blossom your communication and your interest in the other person.
Learning to dance gave us a fun experience, a united goal, a fresh perspective, and an opportunity to hold each other more. A win for our marriage!
Keep Dancing!
Though we haven’t continued the lessons for some time now, we are eager to keep dancing. We still dance in the kitchen, but we want to keep learning and growing in our skill!
This past Black Friday and Cyber Monday weekend, Tim bought a package at Better Sway. We are eager to crank up the heat in the garage and take the lessons together over the winter time.
Just last night, Tim found some awesome dancing videos. I want to study them, and try them out together! Here are some of my favorites that he found.
Maybe I should get one of those dresses too! Oooo la-la! 🙂
Conclusion
Do you dance with your husband? Even if you don’t do official ‘steps,’ I hope he grabs your hand, pulls you to himself, and begins to sway together.
We found a few dance learning opportunities near us that involve a lesson, followed by a dance time with live music and food. I hope we can schedule some date nights at those events. The experience will be quite something.
