A New Shop: Swaddle My Baby

Happy New Year to you! I would like to share a special project that is near and dear to my heart.

Over the Fall, I’ve been sewing.  I’ve made over 30 swaddle blankets in my new shop called Swaddle My Baby

My shop includes swaddle blankets, burping clothes, and a couple headbands for baby.

Gifts for Baby

I had two opportunities to buy a baby gift last summer, and every time this opportunity comes, I’m drawn to give a gift that has meant something to me as a mom of a newborn.

The first item that always comes to mind is the book, “I love you Through and Through.” Just saying the title gets me teary-eyed. Each of my babies sat in my lap to read this story from the earliest days of their lives.

The other item that I loved for my newborn babies was the swaddle blanket. These oversized blankets could wrap up a tiny baby to keep his arms inside, safe and warm. Little newborns have many reflexes and wiggles; this can keep them awake, when they’d rather be resting (and mama too!)

The swaddle was a blessing that served my family well. This tool helped to teach my little baby how to follow a good routine for their eating, playtime, and nap-time. These things don’t come naturally; they have to be gently taught to these new little lives. And this routine would serve each of my children well in their early years!

When shopping for a gift, I had a difficult time finding a swaddle blanket like the ones I had made for my baby, so I decided to sew them myself.

If you’re looking for a great gift idea for a new baby in your life, please check out my colorful selection of soft, flannel blankets.

If you’d like to purchase a blanket or a set of swaddle blankets with matching, double-sided burp clothes, please e-mail me at keepwalkingfriend@gmail.com or visit my online store at Swaddle My Baby.

Last Fall, I was a vendor in a Arts & Music Show in Peoria. These blankets looked so beautiful in the gardens there. Here is a snapshot of my blankets on display.

Another Gift: Reading to your baby

Reading to my babies has been one of the best decisions I made. Hindsight is 20/20, and this hindsight has proven solid.

Reading to your children grows them into healthier children and individuals. I’d go as far to say that reading to them has also grown our relationships with each other. Whether reading “The Little House on the Prairie” series to my older two before bed or “Good Night, Gorilla” to the baby, these moments have brought us closer together. These experiences have cultivated our relationships; both amongst siblings and between parent and child.

My three ‘babies,’ years ago!

Reading together has set a solid foundation for learning. Now that my babies are children and teens, they all have grown to love learning and enjoy reading. Whether that’s because we sat each day in a rocking chair with a book before bedtime, I’m not certain. But it probably set something in motion; a habit, a routine, a step-in-the-right-direction for each of my kids. Thank you Lord! When I didn’t know, He knew. I’m so grateful He led us to make this small choice years ago.

Books for Baby

Alongside my favorite book, “I Love you Through and Through,” we also read its companion book, “How do I love you?,” both written by Bernadette Rossetti-Shustak. Some other titles that have become favorites for me and baby include, “I Wish You More” by Amy Krouse Rosentha, “Good, Night Gorilla” by Peggy Rathmann, and “On the Night You Were Born” by Nancy Tillman.

Books for Children

As each child grew, the book collection expanded as well. Here’s a list of my favorite read-alouds:

  • Put Me in the Zoo
  • Fox in Socks
  • Spot Tells the Time
  • Curious George’s ABC’s
  • Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons
  • Go, Dog. Go!
  • What was I Scared of?
  • I Spy Little Numbers
  • Goodnight Moon 123
  • Today I Will Fly!
  • Jesus Storybook Bible

Conclusion

I hope you receive the joy of buying a gift for a new mother and baby in your life this year!

When the opportunity for a baby shower comes your way, what do you buy for mama and baby? What are some of your “go-to” gifts?

Those first few weeks of life are sweet and cherished. Enjoy this time. It’s past all too quickly.

May you find joy and blessing in the new year ahead. Keep walking friend.
